Bill Dallas 1937-

Bill Dallas was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and currently resides and works in Oakland, CA. He grew up surrounded by music – Kansas City Blues & Jazz. Although he had a love for the art form, he never focused his direction toward music. It wasn’t until 1963, after his move to Berkeley, California, That he decided to pick up a brush & experiment with painting. He soon discovered an innate talent & love for painting. To enhance his skill & knowledge, Dallas enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a BFA in 1974. A traveler whenever possible, Dallas has visited 19 countries. During his travels to Japan, he studied with Toshi Yoshida.

Dallas is a versatile artist who handles calligraphy, figure studies & abstracts equally well. However, his main focus today is ‘true art’. His two handed brush less style of painting is unique. He calls this technique emotional & musical responses inspiration he receives from both music and life. “All my experiences, collected thoughts, Jazz music, and wisdom of those whom I’ve been privileged to share time with are incorporated in my art.”

The disharmony in his art is intentional because, disharmony is just as important as harmony,” says Dallas. “Beauty seems to be born after all the so-called rules are discarded. The mind must remain open, free & full of inspiration to create & stimulate with new artistic ideas.”

“The divine principle of abstract painting is to be in a constant state of enlightenment. Freedom first, then comes enlightenment & with that enlightenment you understand division & separation of the imagination. Try looking in between the raindrop instead of the rain next time.

Dallas has a passion for paintings. Today he is moving into new areas, experimenting with different concepts of color, form and content.

Dallas’ work has been exhibited throughout the Bay Area & recently in New York. His work is found in private collections, in Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, and South Africa & throughout the United States.
